About Elizabeth:

Elizabeth came to Washington from Atlanta in 1997 and soon found herself working in politics. During this time, she was frequently approached about her clothing. “People would complement me on what I was wearing”, Elizabeth told us. “Due to the nature of our business (politics), clothing tends to be very conservative. I started adding a dash to my wardrobe and the people around me noticed.”

About Periwinkle:

“My selection is very feminine and hip. I started with pieces that could be easily added to a work wardrobe, including accessories such as shoes and belts. Now I’ve expanded into jeans, weekend wear and more youthful clothing. I also carry clothing suitable for weddings, showers, and black tie events.”

Business Philosophy:

“No hard sales! I want you to be 100% happy with what you buy here. The clothes aren’t cheap, so you better feel like a million bucks. What you get here should make you feel better about yourself – this will transfer to your life.”

Why did you choose to do this?

“I’ve wanted to do this since I was a little kid. I was happy in my old job, but saw an opportunity to do something I’ve always dreamed of. I saw a niche for me, where I could add a twist to conservative clothing. You could go to a business event, and then hit the town in something that was a little more hip than the usual stuff. Now I see some of the things I’ve sold to clients on them in the local newspapers – it’s a great feeling.”

Why Alexandria?

“I looked around, and really lucked into coming here. I checked out Clarendon, but it was quite expensive and parking was terrible. Same was true for Georgetown. Potomac Greens was opening, and had everything I was looking for. I couldn’t be happier. It’s now become a destination – people come from DC during their lunch hour.”
