Fairfax County police were alerted to an alleged property crime being committed within the Fairfax County Public School system.
 
On Thursday, October 2, Wachovia Bank flagged a suspicious ATM deposit made by a school employee. The bank then notified officials within the school system who conducted an internal investigation. They placed the employee on administrative leave on Friday, October 10 and contacted police. The investigation led detectives to obtain two embezzlement warrants for Pleshette Cook, 43, of 9410 Prim Rose Lane, in Manassas. Cook, a financial analyst employed by the Fairfax County Public School system, turned herself in on the morning of Thursday, October 16.
