Rumor has it that Neighborhood Restaurant Group has take over 100 King Restaurant. They are moving pretty quickly to open two different concepts at the two level Restaurant. They will turn the main level to a lite fare “Old Town” style bar and restaurant with the upper level designed as a steak house.

Expect the name and chef to change. The new chef is a “local chef” who does not want to be named till further notice. We don’t have any details on whether the Neighborhood Restaurant Group is taking over the lease or is negotiating with the bankruptcy court. As you all know, 100 King owner Peter Malios filed for bankruptcy at the Alexandria circuit court after BB&T Bank tried to foreclose and auction the property. Since then, Stephen Tedeschi, principal at New York’s One Group, has taken over and has made great strides in tuning the corner. He has improved the service, changed the menu to prime steak and seafood and brought in great local bands on Thursdays and in the weekends. He has been trying to change the name to 100 Prime and to get a new liquor license for the new restaurant.

The Neighborhood Restaurant Group has been successful in all of its endeavors in Alexandria and Arlington. They own Vermilion, Buzz, Evening Star, and Rustico in Alexandria and Eat Bar and Tallula in Arlington. They also have Star Catering – their catering arm. It will be interesting to see how they will compete with other steak houses in the area such as Bookbinders.

The 100 king location has been a graveyard for lots of restaurants, so let’s hope the new concept will be successful for many years to come.
