Redskins huddle with Francis Hammond students

Francis C. Hammond elementary students got to huddle with The Redskins Tuesday in Landover as part of United Way's 10-year goal to increase by one-third the number of youth who are healthy and avoiding risky behaviors.

Hammond students were on hand as the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and United Way launched the two youth initiatives to provide new and fun opportunities for young people to lead healthier lifestyles. Using physical fitness units powered by HOPSports, United Way and the Redskins delivered 21st century physical education to the Hammond schools and youth-serving agencies.

On hand were Redskins players Santana Moss, James Thrash, Malcolm Kelly, Kareem Moore, Justin Tryon, Matt Sinclair and Ladell Betts who lead about 130 kids through a series of fitness activities designed to help the students get more play in their day.

The event was part of the tenth annual NFL/United Way Hometown Huddle a series of volunteer projects implemented on the same day by NFL players and United Ways in different NFL cities nationwide.
