Movies not to see unless you have to…

Step Brothers: There are movies that you sometimes wonder why they were made. Is it because people are so fed up with their daily lives that they will laugh at anything? Step Brothers belongs to that category. Will Farrell and John C Reilly who star in this movie have had some success (if you want to call it that) in Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby.

In this movie they play two forty year old men who still live with their parents. Both of them are slackers and spoiled. When Will Farrell’s mother (Mary Steenburgen) and Reilly’s father (Richard Jenkins) get married, they all move together and the troubles start. The movie contains a lot of obscenity and really no plot whatsoever. I know we don’t expect a plot from those kinds of movies but this one is beyond bad.

The Day the Earth Stood Still: Jennifer Connelly "and Keanu Reeves star in the sci-fi remake. Scott Derrickson directed the picture as his follow-up to "The Exorcism of Emily Rose." Ryne Douglas Pearson wrote the screenplay; David Scarpa penned a recent draft.
Story kicks off as aliens land on Earth carrying a message for all humans: Live in peace or be destroyed. Connelly is set to portray Helen Benson, the role Patricia Neal played in the 1951 original. Now the movie comes out in a time plagued by wars, environmental concerns and lack of political stability but it looks like a lecture on how we should live our lives coupled with another boring performance by Keanu Reeves. Keanu summarizes the movie in a scene in trailer where he says “if the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the earth survives”. Wow, how poetic! I hate such movies where Hollywood tries to talk down to us like a bunch of 12 year olds. I am sure the movie will do well in its first week (due to the fact that it is a sci-fi) but I predict it will bomb after that.
