There’s a new dojo in town, Seichou Karate on Royal Street in Old Town.  In Japanese seichou means growth.  Sensei Richard Romero hopes to change after school habits of local kids one kick at a time concentrating on personal growth. This charming and persuasive former middleweight champion karate master has a plan to help students succeed in life with his unique Japanese culture immersion program KICK, (Kids Interdisciplinary Culture & Karate) and the first step gives your child after school plans three or five days a week.

Quicker than you can say Seichou Karate five times fast, Sensei Romero will tell you the three prong approach to learning, discipline, health and success for kids he observed first hand while living in Japan for 5 years.  This includes instruction in Japanese language, the ancient art of calligraphy, and karate.  Sensei Romero feels his unique program for six to twelve year olds is his personal calling, and he won’t be satisfied until his ambitious after school program is the best in the industry.

He strives for his students to be physically fit, mentally strong,
and well mannered

Seichou Karate offers after school pick up at nearby Alexandria City schools. Following a nutritious snack and supervised study time, children participate in 45 minutes of Japanese language curriculum or calligraphy.  Sensei Romero believes whole heartedly in the enhancement of mental acuity as it relates to hard science and math from the study of calligraphy and says kids just love the challenge.

Sensei Romero is passionate about developing the whole child. He strives for his students to be physically fit, mentally strong, and well mannered, considerate people. His energy is boundless.  With over 20 years of teaching experience, Sensei Romero transforms the “cool” appeal of karate to kids into confidence, self-control and respect.

After operating out of local health clubs and in DC to build his client base and perfect his program offering, Sensei Romero proudly opened Seichou Karate dojo in Old Town in March.  Admission is offered on a rolling basis the KICK program.

Parents and other adults don’t worry if you want to get in on the action, too.  Seichou Karate boasts a full menu of karate instruction for all ages.
