It was a day that would have made Gatsby proud.
 
Hats off to great style and good times at the 71st running of the International Gold Cup in Plains last Saturday. On a crisp, picturesque autumn day with just enough October chill, well-heeled ladies shielded their delicate faces from the glorious fall sunlight with show-stopping derby hats, and the gents (never to be outdone in the style department) smoked big fat cigars with debonair abandon.  

As the horses dashed, the champagne splashed. Gold Cuppers tailgated with sumptuous feasts featuring everything from caviar to fried chicken...Hey, who says you can't economize in style?
 
Times are tough, and a momentous election is looming, but can you think of a better way to put your cares aside for a day and enjoy the camaraderie of friends and the endearing spirit of a horse race? We think not. Let the good life soar while it is still alive.
