Seven hundred and one pounds of fun. Yes, that's Cuy the bull. Aint' he cute, covered in flies and nuzzling my knee? And can you even believe he let me pet him? Surprised me too, and my skinny, sexy pal Jenn Heyns who took this pic when she came to interview me. We were in the kitchen, trying our best to approach the whole thing professionally (which was ridiculous as we've been friends since my first five minutes in Fauquier and typically spend every second we're together giggling like school girls), when Jenn suddenly packed up her pen and announced, "That's it! I've had all I can stance, and I can't stance no more!" Ok, she didn't actually say that. (A bucket of range cubes for the first person who tells me who did!) She simply said she had enough for the article and was leaving. But not before she took a couple of photos. Despite what my brothers will tell you, I don't really like having my picture taken. The flash accentuates my "fine lines", and the lack of a wide angle lens usually leaves me looking like one of our livestock. But what if posed with our poultry? Or a goat? Or better yet, one of our bulls? Jenn and I proceeded cautiously to the pasture, and sweet Cuy accommodated us. He looks stout and I look (comparatively) svelte. So it all worked out. And what better way to end a morning spent slinging the bull than with a picture with a bull? Susan McCorkindale is a former resident of Manhattan who decamped to the rustic confines of Upperville, VA. She may be contacted at susanmccorkindale@counterfeitfarmgirl.com.
