They charted a successful course for business in Alexandria. Now, the winners are in...

In a packed ballroom full of more than 300 of the city's business and political elites, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce announced its 2008 Business Awards for leadership and innovation on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Crowne Plaza in Old Town.

The event felt a lot like the Academy Awards, with stories of struggle, success and achievement dominating the lectern.

Competition for the honors of Business Leader of the Year, Retail Business of the Year, New Business of the Year and other hard-fought-for titles has always been tough among the city's entrepreneurs, restaurateurs and business elites, and this year was no different.
