ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Metro is investigating why a bus rolled into an apartment building in Alexandria after its driver had gotten out to fix malfunctioning doors.
No one was hurt in the accident, which occurred just before 6 p.m. Thursday. Officials say the driver had emptied the bus of passengers and turned off the engine because he could not close the back doors.
The bus rolled several blocks on Duke Street during the evening rush and crossed the median before running down a 20-foot embankment and crashing into a seven-story apartment building.
Jerry Conner, a software developer whose apartment was hit, was not home at the time. He says he returned home to find a bus in his dining room.
