Copyright/Jim Henson Productions What would the late Jim Henson feel about one of his Muppets donating to Barack Obama?

The e-mail note of thanks last week to an Alexandria woman who gave $15 to Barack Obama's campaign using "Kermit the Frog" as donor name was short and simple: Kermit the Frog 1234 Sesame Street Lane Alexandria, VA. 22307 Dear Kermit, Thank you for your donation of $15 to my presidential campaign. Senator Biden and I have been able to develop innovative approaches to challenge the status quo and get results. Americans are tired of divisive ideological politics, which is why I have reached out to Republicans to find areas of common ground. Thank you for your gift to my campaign. Barack Obama Ellen Walter, an Alexandria Republican and self-professed McCain supporter, said she made the same $15 gift online using "Kermit the Frog" as her name to the McCain/Palin 2008 Victory Fund, but said she received an error message in response, rejecting the gift. "I just wanted to test the system," said Walter, a former Capitol Hill aide to a Republican member. "Obama's campaign took my credit card number and processed the gift, but John McCain did not." Kermit the Frog, of course, is a Muppet, one of pupeteer Jim Henson's most famous and beloved creations, first introduced in 1955. Kermit was performed by Henson until his death in 1990. Since then he has been performed by Steve Whitmire and voiced by Frank Welker in Muppet Babies and occasionally in animation.
