50 Years of Holiday Sipping, Shopping and Supporting  at a Junior League’s of Washington’s A Capital Collection Susanne Seidman, Style Editor

The best of local favorites and special guest vendors from around the country set up shop at the Marriott Wardman Park this weekend.  

The JLW provides critical volunteer hours and dollars in Alexandria and the greater Washington DC area.  From historic docent programs to homeless and battered women’s shelters, these ladies roll up their sleeves and provide organized and well trained volunteers.  Adding a focus on literacy has shaped the goals of these dedicated women and targeted new recipients of the Junior League of Washington’s grants. Grants made possible by the expert fundraising of the same talented volunteers.

Bring your list and open your wallets to get jump on holiday shopping and support the Junior League of Washington, whose time and talents count some of Alexandria’s best volunteers.

Local Alexandria philanthropists and leaders Mary Moran Miller and Shiela Corley took on one of the most successful and anticipated annual JLW fundraisers as chair women to make it easy for the area shoppers to put the power of the local pocket books to work.

Along with an extensive merchant committee, this duo secured returning favorite vendors including local authors Cheryl Barnes of VSP and Leslie Young of the Plaid series, jewelry by Meg Carter and sustaining member of the JLW Allison Brooks of Queen Bee Designs as well as clothier Sherman Pickey-- the same owner ship as Old Town favorite Hysteria.

General Shopping is a bargain at $10 which admits shoppers all three days.
