WASHINGTON, DC. - President Donald Trump declared on Twitter on Wednesday that he intends to launch missiles against the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad, warning Russia that the strike will come even though Moscow has threatened to shoot down any American missiles launched at the war-torn country.

“Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and ‘smart!’” Trump wrote on Twitter Wednesday morning. “You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!”

Trump said earlier this week that the U.S. has “a lot of options militarily” to respond to what has been identified as a chemical weapons attack in the suburbs of Damascus by Assad’s government. The White House announced Tuesday that Trump would not make a planned trip to South America at the end of this week so that he can coordinate a U.S. response to the chemical attack.
