Gov. Tim Kaine joined President Obama Wednesday at a health care town hall meeting in Annandale.

Following Kaine's remarks, Obama talked about the urgent need for reform and took questions from the audience, as well as from people who submitted questions via Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

After the town hall,  Kaine issued the following statement in support of Obama’s plan for reform:

“I was honored to join President Obama this afternoon in the Commonwealth of  Virginia as he made the case for health care reform. We heard stories from Virginians and online participants about how important it is that we act now to fix the shortcomings of our health care system. One in seven people in this country – and in my own state of Virginia - are already without insurance, and millions more struggle every day with skyrocketing premiums, loss over coverage, and unmanageable health care costs.  This is just unacceptable.

“Today, the President made a strong case for reform.  He talked about the imperative we have to act, and the necessity of health care reform in building a strong foundation for economic prosperity. The status quo is unacceptable and Americans families and businesses can’t afford to wait for health care reform even one more year.

“The President has called for a reform plan that lowers costs, preserves patient choice and ensures access to quality, affordable care for all Americans. President Obama is committed to enacting reform this year. But to make it happen and finally turn the tide against the status quo, citizens all across this country will have to respond to the President’s call for change and stand up for reform.

“We will continue to work in cities and towns across the country to build support for comprehensive reform and work with President Obama to make it happen this year.”
