| Lemme get this straight...The Police Chief goes to jail for drunk driving, the wife of the Sheriff is murdered in cold blood, and six years later there's STILL been no arrest. An off-duty Alexandria cop doing security at IHOP riddles a car with bullets and kills a teenager because he didn't pay the bill...We've got a meter attendant handing out handicapped placards to friends and another going to jail for embezzling money from the parking meters...And now, we taxpayers are expected to just say OKAY! to a new $60 million police headquarters? |

| John, I had to re-read your last article about Baker a few times after realizing you wrote it. I kept expecting to find some amateur aspect or flaw, but after a lifetime of reading the NY Times (forgive me) and well written law cases and briefs, I was truly impressed! Very well done. You're a natural, keep it up!

| I'm sure he was a very fine policeman and an all-around great guy, but his blood alcohol level was ONE POINT NINE and he was in a crash while driving a city vehicle! He really had no choice but to retire in order to save his pension, and if the law states a minimum of 5 days in jail for high BAC levels, plus other mandatory punishments, then he must be treated and sentenced like the average citizen who has made the same serious mistake! I hope the media follows this story through to the end to ensure that the city's and Commonwealth's laws are followed impartially. Furthermore, I would not be surprised if we learned that former Chief Baker has gotten away with driving while impaired before. |

| My very best wishes to Dave and his family. Upon reflection, he has taken full responsibility and personally a huge penalty for his error. All who know him and his love for the job and Alexandria are not surprised that he made the right, honorable, though surely a difficult decision. |

| If you can't do the time, don't do they crime!" as the theme song to "Baretta" instructed viewers, a concept which the show's star, Robert Blake, didn't exactly take to heart!
