Tuscan-Inspired San Lorenzo Opens Next Week in Shaw - Source Eater

WASHINGTON, DC. - San Lorenzo, the Tuscan-style restaurant Tosca chef Massimo Fabbri has been setting up in Shaw, is now scheduled to open next week.

While San Lorenzo (1316 Ninth St NW) doesn’t have a definite opening date, the neighborhood restaurant is planning to debut nightly dinner service on Tuesday, June 26 or Wednesday, June 27, pending final inspections, permits, and staff training.

Fabbri recently hired some seasoned veterans in the Italian hospitality space to come on board: Andy Clark, most recently at All-Purpose and Red Hen, is his chef de cuisine. And Michael Nayeri, a Galileo alum who owns long-standing restaurant A La Lucia in Alexandria, Virginia, is the general manager.

Design firm Swatchroom transformed the brick-lined space, formerly occupied by neighborhood eatery Thally, with lots of European-inspired elements. The roughly 70-seat spot — with room for 56 in the dining room, plus another 14 at the bar — pays homage to the chef’s family and hometown of Monsummano Terme in the Tuscan region of Italy. Images of the family crest — a gold crown — appear throughout the eatery.
