ALEXANDRIA, VA. — You may have seen Toastique at The Wharf in DC. This spring, it will be expanding across the river in Alexandria. The gourmet toast and juice bar received approval in January from the Department of Zoning and Planning to open at 1605 King Street.

The city's staff report says "the restaurant would bring a new healthy food concept to the area which would likely encourage additional activity to the tenant space, previously occupied by a commercial printer."

Toastique's menu includes a selection of toasts piled with toppings, cold pressed juices, smoothies and bowls. According to a city staff report, Toastique plans to have 21 indoor and 10 outdoor seats.

Founder Brianna Keefe originally opened Toastique to fulfill her dream of having her own health cafe. As a former college athlete, she emphasizes healthy meals to boost energy while on the go. She developed specialty toasts from the original avocado toast to be offered anytime of the day.

Toastique shared a preview image of the location via Facebook. An exact opening date has not been released.
