Chef/Partners Kaz Okochi and Richard Sandoval are pleased to announce Antonio Burrell as Chef de Cuisine of Masa 14, the new 100-seat Latin-Asian hotspot opening at 1825 14th Street, NW in September, which will serve dinner and weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
The all-small plates menu will incorporate Asian and Latin flavors, and will be priced from $6 to $14. Guests dining at Masa 14 can view the open kitchen complete with a wood-fired brick oven which will be an important centerpiece to Masa 14’s menu.
Prior to joining Masa 14, Antonio Burrell served as the chef de cuisine of CommonWealth, a British-inspired, American-bred gastropub in Columbia Heights. Burrell’s career also includes working for six years in two of Washington’s most elite kitchens: Vidalia and Bistro Bis, under Chef/Owner Jeffrey Buben, named “Best Chef Mid-Atlantic in 1999” by the James Beard Foundation.
Burrell started as the executive sous chef in 2000, and worked his way up the culinary ladder learning both contemporary French and contemporary American cuisine. Burrell also served as executive chef of Viridian Restaurant in Washington, DC from 2006 to 2008 and executive chef of Eleventh Street Lounge in Arlington, from 2007 to 2008.
Masa 14 is a partnership between Kaz Okochi of KAZ Sushi Bistro, Richard Sandoval of Modern Mexican Group and SULA, LLC, and is located at 1825 14th Street, NW.
The restaurant serves dinner nightly, beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday; from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday; from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Saturday and from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Sunday. Brunch is also available Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A late night menu is also available for guests daily after midnight which incorporates items from the wood-burning oven. MASA 14, which has capacity for 240 guests, features a spacious 100-seat restaurant, plus a private dining room which can accommodate parties of 18, and a handsome 74-seat bar/lounge which is divided into three sections featuring ample selections of tequila, sake, beer, wine and cocktails.
