ALEXANDRIA, VA. —
Gluten-free bakery Happy Tart has closed at 2307A Mt Vernon Avenue in Del Ray, the owner announced on Thursday, Jan. 31. The closure is effective immediately.

"We have loved every minute of our time in Del Ray - however - The Happy Tart is moving in a new direction and we need to consolidate our resources," owner Emma Cech said in a message to customers.

The Falls Church location at 410 South Maple Avenue remains open. Happy Tart is working on expanding its online presence and will sell products nationwide. The bakery recently joined UberEats delivery and will soon be a part of Amazon delivery. It will also sell goods through its own website, as well as Amazon and Etsy.

Cech opened the Del Ray Happy Tart in 2011, followed by the Falls Church location in 2015. As two of her children have Celiac disease, she decided to focus on gluten-free offerings, from cakes and pastries to other delicacies. Happy Tart has previously been recognized as a top gluten-free bakery and a destination for visitors seeking gluten-free options in the region.

After being closed for renovations, Happy Tart Del Ray reopened in 2017 with an expanded menu. New menu offerings (also available at the Falls Church shop) include crepes and ciders.

Cech thanked patrons for the "great years in Del Ray" and welcomes all to the Falls Church location. Visit www.happytartbakery.com for more information.
