Hummus Recall For Listeria Concern In Virginia, Maryland, D.C. - Source Patch

ALEXANDRIA, VA. - An Alexandria, Va. company is recalling a hummus product sold throughout Virginia, Maryland and D.C. because of a possible bacterial contamination.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services released a statement saying Asmar's Mediterranean Food, Inc. is recalling a lot of Asmar's Original Hommus because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections to individuals with weakened immune systems, the department said.
