ALEXANDRIA, VA. - The main room of the Royal Restaurant was overflowing as the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce held another successful Professional Networking Breakfast Monday morning.

Charlie Euripides was on hand to ensure that the custom-made omelets and waffles were just right, as was the ample buffet that was provided for Chamber members and guests.

Due to the configuration, it wasn’t possible to do the typical networking, so Joe Shumard, the Chamber's membership director, directed guests to stand up and meet somebody across the room. That resulted in a kind of organized chaos, but achieved the mission.

The monthly event was sponsored by the Strand and the Aventine, as well as Halt, Buzas & Powell.

Earlier in the week, Union Street Public House hosted "Spring Forward to Union Street," Community Lodgings’ Fifth Annual Spring Forward Event.

Anne LaFond and Maggie Johnston co-chaired the 2010 Spring Forward Gala, with support from executive director, Bonnie Baxley, and development director, Jim Dempsey. Union Street provided all the food, which included their signature crab & lobster cakes, miniature spanakopita, crispy shrimp, raw shrimp, oysters, steamship round, salads, cheese and vegetable trays.

Managing Partner Robert J. Test also donated the entire restaurant, along with wait staff to Community Lodgings for the evening. The first floor was used for the early part of the evening, which featured cocktails and dinner, as well as a silent auction display in Union Street’s Regatta Room. Guests gathered upstairs for dessert & coffee, presentations and a live auction.

Barry C. Stauffer was honored by board chair Chris McMurray as “A Man with a Hammer --- A Man with a Mission.” Stauffer has given extensive volunteer time and was praised for “his ability to organize and lead groups of volunteers in repairing and beautifying no less than eight transitional apartments.”

Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille was the honorary auctioneer and Tim Sullivan presided as auctioneer.
