ALEXANDRIA, VA. – Bill Butcher has leased 21,000 square feet in Alexandria in order to launch a craft brew brand celebrating Alexandria’s history, Missy Frederick writes in The Washington Business Journal,
A notable in wine business circles, Bill Butcher now intends to expand into another potent potable: beer.
Garnering a reputation in the wine business via managing sales and distribution for such well-known outfits as Robert Mondavi Winery and launching Folio Fine Wine Partners in 2005, the Alexandria resident has new plans.
The first step to making it big in the beer business came when Butcher signed a lease to open Port City Brewing Company in Alexandria.
“I’ve watched over the past 10 years how the craft beer business has evolved to become more complex and sophisticated,” Butcher told the WBJ.
“I think it has a lot in common with the way fine wine is crafted, and I think there’s room in the market here for another local brewer.”
Butcher has 21,000 square feet to work with for his craft brewery, a space previously occupied by Capital Lighting & Supply at 3950 Wheeler Ave. near Cameron Run Regional Park.
The space will not only include the brewery, but also a tasting room where people will be able to sample and purchase beer.
There will be no food or restaurant component to the facility.
