“I am a two-time breast cancer survivor,” Ellen Vlasak explains. “I went to Circe and was bald from chemotherapy, and they treated me in such a kind, healing way that my husband and I decided to purchase the spa.”

ALEXANDRIA, VA. - Ellen Vlasak is a two-time breast cancer survivor and passionate about finding a cure. Her personal battle inspired her dedication to transforming Circe of Alexandria salon into a luxurious escape for all clients, even if they arrive at the salon just as Ellen had two years ago with no hair due to chemotherapy radiation treatment.

To raise awareness for breast cancer research, Circe will be launching a “change for change” campaign next week to raise money for the Inova Breast Care Institute at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.

The spa has recently undergone a massive renovation.

The Circe of Alexandria Aveda Salon and Day Spa team is hosting a grand re-opening Tuesday June 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at their prime location in Old Town.

Ellen and her husband Richard Vlasak purchased the salon two years ago and are looking to reintroduce the salon to the Alexandria community in a bold new way.

“We wear pink and go green!” says Ellen.

Circe was the Greek goddess of magic, renowned for her eternally youthful beauty and for her knowledge of healing herbs.

Her name rightfully befits the salon, famous in the area among spa aficionados for its use of the naturally and organically based Aveda products and the highest quality of treatments for hair and skin.

The spa has recently undergone a massive renovation and expansion under the direction of the Vlasaks, entrepreneurs and antiques dealers who both moved to Old Town from New York two years ago.

“I am a two-time breast cancer survivor,” Ellen explains. “I went to Circe and was bald from chemotherapy, and they treated me in such a kind, healing way that my husband and I decided to purchase the spa.”

The Vlasaks took over the salon two years ago, and have a vision for its noted presence in the DC area.

“Our vision for the salon and spa is to create an environment in which a client is rejuvenated, relaxed, and is a place where the genuine care and comfort of our guests is our highest mission," Ellen says. "We pledge to provide the finest personal service and facility for our guests who will always enjoy a warm, relaxed, yet refined ambience."

The unique attraction of Circe?

"We are caregivers, not simply professionals who enhance your natural beauty and the way your present yourself to the world," she said. "We are healers, we seek to relieve stress. We promote youth, no matter what a person’s chronological age.”

"Our vision for the salon and spa is to create
an environment in which a client is rejuvenated,
relaxed, and is a place where the genuine care
and comfort of our guests is our highest
mission," Ellen says.

Indeed, it is the fountain of youth that many clients seem to want, from eyelash extensions to the ever popular micro-dermabrasion process to renew the facial skin.

The salon/spa is a Lifestyle Aveda Salon and offers Circe brand Make-Up and signature products. Pedicure afficionados will appreciate the "zero gravity" chair, which enhances circulation to the brain for maximum relaxation during your pedicure.

The renovation includes the addition of a second floor, on which is situated a private VIP room for clients who desire to be treated in a luxurious private room. Circe is the only salon in the DC area to offer this service.

Aesthetician Sarah explains that Circe offers personal beauty consultations, so when new clients book a treatment, they're given a complimentary 15-minute consultation.

The spa has a new oxygen machine, which is used for facials and injects healing vitamins into the skin. It also has anti-acne services geared to teens or even adults who suffer acne.

Also available are Dolymed products, used for chemical peels—a more intensive facial requiring about 48 hours of downtime after the procedure. Sharlia notes that a product used by all of the Real Housewives, called “Extreme Lashes” is used at Circe and is growing in popularity for those wishing to enhance their eyelashes.

An LED light facial is also offered to clients seeking to rejuvenate the appearance of their faces.

All aestheticians at Circe are required to undergo annual refreshment of their educations in their specialties, and are ranked according to their experience and training as new, junior, senior, and master level.

One of Circe Salon’s most distinguishing characteristic is the team’s dedication to recycling.

In a renovation from 2,000 sq. feet to 6,000 sq. feet of beautifying glory, recycled materials permeated every step.

Recycled cork floors, rustic barn doors from a farm in Pennsylvania as wall paneling, and remodeled, reused pieces from the former salon are just a few ways the Circe of Alexandria is going green.

That’s why, for every plastic bottle brought to the event, Circe of Alexandria will donate a quarter to the the Inova Breast Care Institute at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.

Highlights of the new renovation include a highly exclusive bridal/special events suite for groups to receive services privately, separate from the general salon.

To bring this special space to life, Hannelore’s Bridal Boutique will be showcasing a dozen of their flawless wedding gowns as well as bridal accessories for guests to try on.
Circe of Alexandria redefines the typical salon and spa experience for its elite clientele. Keeping with this mission, four full-service VIP rooms were added to the second floor for patrons looking for a more private space for services.

Amidst a pink glow courtesy of Artistic Concepts Group, the Washington Life Magazine sponsored event will feature Circe's world-class estheticians, massage therapists, stylists, hand & foot Specialists and makeup artists.

Epicurean delights featuring Joseph Ambrose, winner of the 1869 Society's ARTini Competition 2012 at the Corcoran Gallery, catering by French restaurant, Bistrot Lafayette, and delectable chocolate desserts by Chouqette Chocolates & Confections.

The Elijah Balbed Trio will provide live jazz music for guests perusing showcased artwork, the exclusive Circe Makeup Line products and the exquisite boutique jewelry line showcase.

Exciting prize giveaways will include swag bags for every guest and door prizes of lavish custom services courtesy of the Circe of Alexandria team.

It may be Election Night in Alexandria, but Circe is expecting Mayor Bill Euille and members of Alexandria’s City Council and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 6:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. in support of this dynamic and revitalized Alexandria business.
