Alexandria , Virginia - The Alexandria Film Festival will be showing “Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg” on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The festival will be held at the George Washington National Masonic Memorial, located on 101 Callahan Drive.
Special Guest Aviva Kempner, filmmaker, will attend the screening and discuss her film with the audience.
“Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg” is the humorous story of television pioneer Gertrude Berg, the creator, principal writer and star of The Goldbergs.
Beginning as a popular radio show which ran for 17 years, The Goldberg’s became one of television’s very first character-driven domestic sitcoms in 1949. Berg received the first Best Actress Emmy in history and played a leading role in paving the way for women in the entertainment industry.
The film by Kempner includes interviews with Includes interviews with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, actor Ed Asner, producers Norman Lear (All in the Family) and Gary David Goldberg (Family Ties), and NPR correspondent Susan Stamberg.
Kempner is known for her investigative and non-stereotypical films that focus on the under known stories of Jewish heroes.
