ALEXANDRIA, VA. -  Christmas at Mount Vernon

Where: George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate

When: From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Why Go: This is the last full weekend to enjoy holiday decorations, chocolate-making demonstrations, 18th century dancing and more. Bring the kids for their chance to meet Aladdin the camel.

Price: Adults $15; Seniors $14; Ages 6 to 11 $7; Ages 5 and under: FREE

Special Exhibition: A Thomas Nast Christmas: The Civil War in Political Cartoons

Where: Lee-Fendall House Museum & Gardens at 614 Oronoco St.

10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday; 1 – 3 p.m. Sunday now through Jan. 15.

Why Go: This exhibit includes some of Nast’s best and most famous holiday images from a time of difficulty for the nation.

Admission is free with museum admission: $5 for adults, $3 children
