ALEXANDRIA, VA. - The City of Alexandria will kick off the Christmas season with its annual tree lighting at Market Square Friday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. All residents are welcome to the free event.

The event will begin with a welcome from the town crier Benjamin Fiore-Walker and remarks by Mayor Allison Silberberg. Residents can then get into the holiday spirit with a performance by Santa's Frosty Follies from the Metropolitan Fine Arts Center.

Then, Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance to light the tree with the mayor. Families can visit Santa afterward while enjoying holiday tunes from the Virginia Bronze Resonances Handbell Ensemble.

The event will happen rain or shine. Market Square is located at 301 King Street.

Before and after the event, visitors can enjoy Black Friday deals at more than 45 Old Town Alexandria businesses. Stay with Patch for more coverage of holiday events around Alexandria in the coming weeks.
