ALEXANDRIA, VA. - After the bomb cyclone brought snow, gusty winds and bitter cold to the area, it may be tempting to warm up by the fire and watch a movie. But if you're feeling a little stir crazy stuck at home, there are events going on to get you out of the house this weekend.

Whether you don't mind braving the cold or prefer an indoor event, here's a selection of events happening in and around Alexandria.

1. ROAMfest at The Birchmere

Hosted by Del Ray's Rock of Ages Music store, ROAMfest is a two-day music festival featuring 21 bands at The Birchmere. There will be performances for all kinds of musical tastes, from 80's and rock, country, to classic and more. Buy tickets at Rock of Ages Music (114 E. Del Ray Ave), The Birchmere box office or online.

2. Sensorium Art Exhibit Opens at Del Ray Artisans

This exhibit explores the human journey by evoking all five senses. Meet the curators and artists at an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 5 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. or visit the exhibit through Jan. 28.

3. MO'Fire: Tribute to Earth, Wind and Fire

If you're feeling nostalgic, check out this tribute concert to Earth, Wind and Fire and Motown legends on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

4. Puppy and Kitty Adoption Event

Head down to the Petco at 6612 Richmond Highway Saturday, Jan. 6 from noon-7 p.m. to find a new furry friend. Puppies and kitties will be available for same-day adoptions.

5. Christmas at Mount Vernon

Don't miss the last day of the holiday celebration at George Washington's estate. Christmas at Mount Vernon runs through Jan. 6, offering Christmas stories by historical reenactors, Aladdin the Christmas camel and more.

Posting an event is as simple as 1, 2, 3. Here's how to do it:

Create a Patch account and sign up to post your own local content on Patch, totally free. It's probably the easiest thing you'll do all day.

Make a Calendar Event and fill it with all the awesome info that people need to add it to their list of things to do in their neighborhood. Choose a fun image to upload and most importantly - have fun with it! It's your event, and the possibilities are endless.

Post it on Patch! That's it. Get ready for RSVPs.

You can share your event for free to three Patches, or if you really want to get the community's attention, you can pay $20 to feature your event. When an event is featured, it receives priority placement on the local calendar as well as on the homepage, article pages and in the daily newsletter (if available) the week before the event.
