ALEXANDRIA, VA. -  Alexandria residents wait all year long to hear the sounds of bagpipes and catch the sight of the parade of tartans through the streets of Old Town.

The Campagna Center's Scottish 44th Christmas Walk Weekend and Parade launches Alexandria's holiday season with events to celebrate and honor Alexandria's Scottish founders. The Campagna Center and it's fundraising groups - The Junior and Supporting Friends as well as The St.Andrew’s Society of Washington, D.C. and the Scottish Government help usher in the holiday season in Alexandria with a two-day celebration culminating in the beloved Scottish Christmas Walk Parade through the streets of Old Town December 5th and 6th.

U.S. Based Senior Diplomat of the Scottish Government Donnie Jack  has been selected as 44th Annual Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend & Parade Grand Marshal.  Donnie Jack, Scottish Affairs Counsellor for the Americas will serve as the Grand Marshal for its 44th Annual Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend & Parade. The Parade will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11:00 am in Old Town Alexandria.
The Scottish Government will, once again, serve as the Premier Sponsor of the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend.  Scottish officials feel this relationship is especially important, "Scotland's bonds of kinship and friendship with the USA are deep and strong.  The Scottish Christmas Walk is a great opportunity to showcase Scotland's vibrant culture and rich heritage - a heritage that is shared with millions of Americans."

As Grand Marshal, Donnie will lead Scottish Clans, pipe and drum bands, Scottish dancers, re-enactment groups, canine marchers, local dignitaries and, of course, Santa Claus, through the streets of Old Town.

The Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend & Parade kicks off Alexandria’s holiday season with events to celebrate and honor Alexandria’s Scottish founders. Along with The St. Andrews Society more than 120 Scottish Clans, pipe and drum bands, Scottish dancers, re-enactment groups, canine marchers, local dignitaries, and, of course, Santa Claus participate in the highlight of the weekend - the beloved parade on Saturday morning.

Ranked this year as a top 10 staff pick by AAA Mid-Atlantic Magazine, the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend & Parade draws as many as 30,000 participants and families annually to the city of Alexandria, Virginia.  Over the years, the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend & Parade has grown from a small, informal parade to an entire weekend filled with events and festivities.
