Setting Guitars and Banjos on Fire this Weekend in Del Ray

The festival will feature a variety of music including jazz, blues, swing, folk, country, Reggae, and rock.

ALEXANDRIA, VA. - “Set your guitars and banjos on fire and before you write a song smoke a pack of whiskey and it'll all take care of itself," wrote legendary musician Beck Hansen many years ago.
 
That just may happen before Saturday is done in Del Ray this weekend. In collaboration with The Birchmere, the 4th Annual Del Ray Music Festival takes place this Saturday, June 26.
 
The festival will feature a variety of music including jazz, blues, swing, folk, country, Reggae, and rock.  

The headliner for the day is The Justin Trawick Group.

Atlantic Records recording artist Chelsea Lee will be participating in this year’s festival, as well as the headliner for the day The Justin Trawick Group.  
 
The majority of the musicians taking the stage are residents of the neighborhood — "something that makes this an extra special show for the performers and gives everyone a chance to hear some wonderful local talent," said Festival Chair Kate Moran.
 
The event is free and takes place from 10 am to 10 pm on the Mount Vernon Recreation Center Fields at 2701 Commonwealth Avenue.  The festival will include music, food, kids games, and a chance to ring in the summer with friends and neighbors.
 
"We are also pleased to announce that the National Capital Area Affiliate of Guitars Not Guns will be participating in this year’s festival," Moran said.  
 
In celebration of GnG’s 10th anniversary serving deserving youth GnG NCA will host the “GnG Music Experience” at the Del Ray Music Festival this year, as well as raffling off a signed Brazen Guitar!

This festival is made possible by the support of our sponsors, most notably Jennifer Walker, a Del Ray Realtor with McEneaney Associates. -Volunteers are needed to oversee the event. The 12-hour event has been broken up into three 3-hour shifts and one 4-hour shift.

Shift times 9:30am to 12:30 pm, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm, 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, and lastly 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
 
The Festival will involve twelve hours of great music, food from local restaurants, and great old fashioned games for kids of all ages.
