ALEXANDRIA, VA. - Halloween may have been months ago, but a good scary movie is always in season. And luckily, "Winchester" is the perfect horror film to give you goosebumps this weekend. Not only is Helen Mirren fantastic in her leading role, but the movie is based on true events, making it all the more frightening.

Also headed to theaters is "A Fantastic Woman," in which a transgender cabaret singer must overcome discrimination and suspicion after her much-older boyfriend passes away.

Here's what to see and to skip this weekend:

Opening This Weekend

"Winchester" — Helen Mirren, Sarah Snook, Jason Clarke, directed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig

The most haunted house in history comes to life on the big screen in the gothic-thriller "Winchester." In the movie, Helen Mirren stars as heiress Sarah Winchester who, in 1884, begins transforming the original farm house into a puzzling, ever-evolving structure designed to thwart evil spirits she believes to be haunting her.

Is she able to find peace after spending $5 million dollars to construct the mansion's 160 rooms, two thousand doors, 10 thousand windows, nine kitchens, 13 bathrooms and 47 stairways?

Note: Due to a movie review embargo until Friday, Feb. 2, we cannot provide a See/Skip verdict on this movie at the time of this guide's publication.

"A Fantastic Woman" — Daniela Vega, Francisco Reyes, directed by Sebastian Lelio

Chile's entry in the Oscar race for Best Foreign-Language feature tells the poignant love story of an aspiring trans cabaret singer, Marina (Vega), and a much older businessman, Orlando (Reyes).

One evening after celebrating Marina's birthday, the 57-year-old man suffers an aneurysm. Subsequently, he dies, and the woman's seemingly-perfect world suddenly falls apart. Now on her own, she must navigate a web of unrelenting suspicion and indignation brought upon by Orlando's family.

See it. Vega's beautiful performance is simply captivating and compelling.
