ALEXANDRIA, VA. — One of Alexandria's must-see holiday events is less than a month away. Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights will happen on Saturday, Dec. 1 with festivities from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. and the parade at 5:30 p.m. The event is free.

There's a good reason Alexandria's boat parade was named the eighth best holiday parade in the nation by USA Today last year. Spectators turn out in numbers to see dozens of brightly lit boats cruise around the Alexandria harbor. Tommy McFly of NBC4 and the former Tommy Show will be the parade announcer.

The parade takes place at the Alexandria City Marina (0 Cameron Street). Recommended viewing areas include: Founders Park (351 North Union Street), Alexandria City Marina (0 Cameron Street), Waterfront Park (1A Prince Street), Shipyard/Harborside Park (1 Wilkes Street), and Ford's Landing Park (99 Franklin Street).

Festivities kick off at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, which will hold holiday activities from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. Other fun will follow at the Alexandria City Marina from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., including a pop-up beer garden from Port City Brewing Company featuring their popular seasonal Tidings Ale, a pop-up Vola's Dockside Grill and giveaways from Lyft. Lyft is also offering 20 percent off rides to the Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights with the code "HOLIDAYPARADE18!". Penny Post will hold a Letters to Santa postcard pop-up , AR Workshop Alexandria will have a DIY holiday wood ornament craft activity, and Dolci Gelati will offer a hot chocolate bar.

Here's the full schedule:
