In what was one of the only times ever that the United States Park Service had allowed a tented dinner party to be held on the Mall, the young Alexandria and young Washingtonian crowd came out in festive black tie to toast the newly created L’Enfant Society and dance the night away at the inaugural "Ball on the Mall" Friday, May 8.
The event was a smashing success and raised more than $150,000 for the Trust for the National Mall’s efforts to restore the National Mall. The Ball was held at 13th and Madison Drive, a near perfect spot on a lovely Spring night.
Young Washington could not help but marvel at the spectacular nighttime views of both the Washington Monument and the Capitol.
A large swing band provided lively music as guests noshed on delicious food from an old fashioned ice cream cart.
Not only was a terrific time had by all, but an important new non-profit has made it's mark on the DC social scene and is creating quite an impact.
"We had 650 attendees...the event was a huge success," said event chair G. John Cecchi. "We're looking forward to our next events on the Mall."
