Jesus Christ is back in town!

Superstar that is…in the person of Ted Neeley. Neeley reprises his brilliant screen performance of “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Warner Theatre for a few more days. Catch it if you can.

This is a double wow for those who have seen it and those who are experiencing it for the first time. Judging from the wild applause and laughter from the audience, most have seen it before….many times before.

Neeley has a international cult following and he doesn’t disappoint his fans. His pipes are extraordinary. He brings the house down with his pure hard-driving vocals. No one but the late countertenor Alfred Deller, has chops like Neeley. He really rips it with numbers like “The Crucifxion.”

Of the supporting cast Matthew G. Meyers as Simon, brings his own soulful sound; James Delisco, as Judas Iscariot, has the power and emotion of a runaway train; and Cristina Sass, as Mary Magdalene, with her heartbreakingly dulcet soprano balances out the cast.

Another cast member with his own following is Craig Sculli as Pontius Pilate. It was like The Rocky Horror Picture Show experience with the audience anticipating all the familiar lines. Some barely staying in their seats as he vamped the stage in “Pilate’s Dream.”

“Jesus Christ Superstar" will be in town until March 22. Catch it!
