ALEXANDRIA, VA. - It's that time of the year when there's a lull between the high school football season and the start of the basketball and wrestling season.

Regarding the just-concluded high school football season: Amongst the 10 public schools in and near Alexandria, T.C. Williams (coached by Dennis Randolph) concluded the 2009 campaign with a 5-5 record - a few of the notable Titan wins included victories versus Alexandria-area schools West Potomac, Mount Vernon and Annandale. Another significant win for the Titans was their victory versus the South County Stallions who qualified for the Division VI post-season quarter-final round.

Coach Randolph, a former head coach at Edison and South Lakes as well, returns a key number of players for the '10 campaign.

In addition to Alexandria City school T.C., in the Fairfax County Alexandria-area: Hayfield (coached by Roy Hill) finished 9-3 overall following a week 11 Division V quarter-final victory versus Yorktown and a week 12 Division V semi-final loss to R.E. Lee; Edison (Vaughn Lewis) finished 7-4 overall following a Division V quarter-final loss on the road at Madison; Annandale (Dick Adams), with a number of players from the Alexandria-section of Fairfax County, finished 4-6; West Potomac (Eric Henderson) concluded the '09 campaign 2-8; both Mount Vernon (Tom Glynn) and Jefferson (Tim Puvogel) finished the '09 season at 0-10.

Whereas West Potomac, Edison, Hayfield, Jefferson, Annandale and Mount Vernon are aproximately: three, four, five, five, six and seven miles respectively from T.C. Williams geographically - the closest public school from T.C. is actually Wakefield (South Arlington).

The Warriors are only approximately two miles to the West of T.C. Williams and regarding the Arlington public schools - the Warriors (Keith Powell) concluded the '09 campaign with a record of 1-9. The Washington-Lee Generals (Josh Shapiro) wrapped up the '09 season at .500 - namely 5-5. The Yorktown Patriots (Bruce Hanson) played an 11th game - losing to the Hayfield Hawks in the Division V quarter-final round to conclude their season at 6-5 overall.

Amongst the four private schools, both Episcopal (Alexandria City) and O'Connell (Arlington County) finished just under .500. St Stephens/St. Agnes (Alexandria City) finished just above .500 and Ireton (Alexandria City) fared the best of the four private schools - finishing the '09 campaign 7-3.

The Cardinals, coached by veteran Tony Verducci, did not qualify for the VIS State Playoffs. Nonetheless, Ireton completed their most successful season since the fall of '07 when they finished 9-3 under Verducci's leadership and earned the VIS State Runners-ups Trophy following a State Title loss to Lynchburg Christian.

Danny Coale (Episcopal '07) is having an outstanding season for the Virginia Tech Hokies.

The red-shirt sophomore wide receiver hauled in six receptions totalling 135 yards in the Hokies 42-13 victory versus the University of Virginia November 28th.

Coale now has 21 receptions on the season totaling nearly 400 yards for the 9-3 Hokies.
