ALEXANDRIA, VA. - The T. C. Williams High School boys’ soccer team defeated W.T. Woodson 3-1 yesterday to win the 2017 Patriot Conference Championship. The T. C. boys earned the top seed in the tournament with a 6-1 conference record at the end of regular season.

T. C. Williams marched through the tournament defeating No. 8 Annandale 5-1 in the first-round game on May 15. Scoring for the Titans were junior Brima Bannister, sophomore Nathaniel Mensah, senior Elvis Gomez, senior Alex Olivera and senior Marcos Mendoza. On May 17, T. C. Williams edged No. 5 West Springfield 1-0 in the semifinals; Gomez scored the lone goal for the Titans.

In the championship on Friday, the No. 1 seed T. C. Titans faced No. 2 seed Woodson Cavaliers. The game remained scoreless for 20 minutes before senior Fredy Romero found an opening and scored for T. C. Williams. The Titans held a 1-0 lead at half time. Within the first two minutes of the second half, Matias Hendi scored to give T. C. a 2-0 advantage. The next goal for the Titans came from a misdirected kick by a Woodson player. T. C. held a 3-0 lead with 28 minutes remaining in the game. The Cavaliers fought back and scored with 14 minutes remaining. The Titans held on to win 3-1 becoming the 2017 Patriot Conference Champions. Last year, the T. C. boys finished as Patriot Conference Runners-up after a 4-3 overtime loss to Lake Braddock in the championship.
