A number of sports activities are taking place in the City of Alexandria over the summer during the next couple of months.
The prestigious St. Stephens/St. Agnes boys summer basketball league recently tipped off on June 15. The league, approximately 20 seasons old, features 12 teams, four of which are from the Alexandria area.
Host St. Stephens/St. Agnes as well as Edison, Hayfield and Annandale comprise the greater Alexandria-area contingent.
Other league members include: Lake Braddock, Langley, Robinson, South Lakes, Wakefield, Washington-Lee, Westfield and W.T. Woodson.
In recent seasons, both T.C. Williams and Ireton have competed in the league - but that is not the case this season.
Each team will play approximately 10 games before the league commences its playoffs in late July. Thus far, Edison, Annandale and South Lakes weigh-in with 1-0 records.
"It gives the players a chance to improve their skills and to be able to develop chemistry with their teammates," said St. Stephens/St. Agnes head coach and league director Kevin McLinton.
