All-Met Honor Athletes Awarded

Fifty-three student athletes from Alexandria garnered All-Met honors recently via the Washington Post:

GIRLS LACROSSE

Player of the Year - St. Stephens/St. Agnes's Kelly Austin.

First-team: SSSA's Charlotte Davis and Ireton's Ashton Hellmuth.

Second-team: SSSA's Kelsey Horton and Ireton's Lauren Gray and Janet Tela.

Honorable-mention: SSSA's Louise Fauth and Ashley Hunter; Ireton's Claire Banta and Maria Bowman; T.C. Williams's Anna Kopecka and Episcopal's Carly Linthicum.

BOYS LACROSSE

Second-team: St. Stephens/St. Agnes's David Solomon.

Honorable-mention: SSSA's Andrew Cordia; Episcopal's Hunter de Butts and Jefferson's Stefan Kowalski.

SOFTBALL


Honorable-mention: Hayfield's Jennifer Windau.

BASEBALL

First-team: Ireton's John Robertson.

Second-team: St. Stephens/St. Agnes's Whit Mayberry.

GIRLS SOCCER

Second-team: Edison's Molly Menchel.

Honorable-mention: Annandale's Jane Aman and Nikki Clark.

BOYS SOCCER

 First-team: Edison's Andy Najar-Rodriguez and Mount Vernon's John Wright.

Second-team: T.C. Williams's Bryan Frank.

Honorable-mention: Hayfield's Lolo Newsome and Jefferson's Brian Murphy.

GIRLS TENNIS

Honorable-mention: Jefferson's Natalie Kirchner.

BOYS TENNIS

Honorable-mention: Episcopal's Peter Pritchard and Jefferson's Edwin Zhang.

GIRLS ROWING

First-team: T.C. Williams's Mary Ball.

Honorable-mention: T.C.'s Megan Epperson, Emily Jayne and Emily Leidolf; Mount Vernon's Kate Player and Michaela Streitfield and Jefferson's Stephanie Snoich.

BOYS ROWING


First-team: T.C. Williams's Tom Lynam and Jefferson's Nolan Pollock.

Honorable-mention: T.C.'s Jamie Byron; Mount Vernon's Alex Tamberg; Jefferson's Nader Al-Naji and Chris Zeng and West Potomac's Kieran Merek.

GOLF


Honorable-mention: Episcopal's Adam Stowe.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD:


First-team: T.C. Williams's Tynita Butts.

Honorable-mention: West Potomac's Julianne Bigler; Edison's Myah Hicks and St. Stephens/St. Agnes's Danielle Williams.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD:


First-team: West Potomac's Jon McCants and Edison's Tihut Degfae.

Honorable-mention: Edison's Leoule Degfae and Hayfield's Elbert Maxwell.

Speaking of track and field, those that witnessed Tynita Butts accomplishments for the past few seasons were constantly amazed. The senior (headed to East Carolina Univ.) not only won this seasons Virginia State outdoor high jump title with a mark of 5'10", she also won her second consecutive Penn Relays long jump title this season with a mark of 19'11".

"Tynita is one of the most talented field event performers in T.C. history" said T.C. veteran head coach Marshall Edmonds.

As stated last week, the 30-team Northern Region for the '09/'10 school year will be comprised of three Districts of eight schools each and one District of merely six schools.

The upcoming redistricting will be as follows:

PATRIOT DISTRICT: T.C. Williams, West Potomac, Annandale, Lake Braddock, West Springfield, R.E. Lee, South County and ***W.T. Woodson.

NATIONAL DISTRICT:
Edison, Mount Vernon, **Hayfield, Falls Church, JEB Stuart, Wakefield, Washington-Lee and Yorktown.

LIBERTY DISTRICT: Jefferson, *Fairfax, South Lakes, Stonebridge, G.C. Marshall, Madison, McLean and Langley.

CONCORDE DISTRICT: Centreville, Chantilly, Herndon, Oakton, Robinson and Westfield.

Two T.C. Williams's baseball players garnered Northern Region first-team awards for their accompishments during the just concluded season.
second baseman Adam Forrer (.521 batting average) and outfielder Matt Kilby (.514 batting average) were selected to the 18 member squad (chosen by the Northern Region coaches).

Forrer also banged out eight triples and collected 21 RBI's along with 15 stolen bases; Kilby also banged out seven doubles and collected 33 RBI's along with 24 runs scored.
