Owner of Jenkins Electrical Contracting Arrested on Tax Evasion Charges

ALEXANDRIA, VA. –  Charles A. Jenkins, 50, of Fairfax Station, Va., has been arrested on tax evasion charges.
        
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; and Rebecca Sparkman, Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation’s Washington, D.C., Field Office, made the announcement.  If convicted, Jenkins faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.
        
According to an indictment returned on July 27, 2010, and made public today, Jenkins is the former owner and operator of an electrical contracting business called Jenkins Electrical Contracting, Inc.  
        
Jenkins is accused of evading the payment of the business’s payroll taxes for 1998 through 2000 by concealing from the IRS his assets and income by incorporating a general contracting business known as JDI, Inc. in the name of a nominee; omitting the ownership of his Fairfax Station residence and other rental property in Northern Virginia on documents submitted to the IRS; and falsely claiming on those documents he had no employment and owned no personal property.
        
This case was investigated by the IRS.  Assistant United States Attorney Timothy D. Belevetz is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
        
Criminal indictments are only charges and not evidence of guilt.  A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty.
