ALEXANDRIA, VA. - Paul J. Manafort, Jr. of Alexandria, VA, appeared before Judge T.S. Ellis, III in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on Oct. 19. The judge set Manafort’s sentencing date in Alexandria for Feb. 8, 2019.

On Aug. 22, a jury found Manafort guilty on eight counts of tax evasion and bank fraud under an indictment brought by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III. Jurors were unable to reach a verdict on the other ten counts.

At the Oct. 19 hearing, Ellis dismissed the deadlocked counts without prejudice. The judge ordered federal probation officers to conduct a presentence investigation and prepare a Presentence Investigation Report for the Feb. 8 sentencing hearing.

Manafort appeared in court in his prison jumpsuit. Ellis denied his request to wear a suit for the hearing last Friday and for all future proceedings.

Manafort faced a second set of criminal charges in federal court in the District of Columbia. On Sept. 14, he pleaded guilty to these additional charges and faces sentencing in this case.
