Former Metro employees sentenced for stealing from fare machines

ALEXANDRIA, VA. - Two former Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority employees were sentenced Friday for stealing about $500,000 from fare card machines Metro stations throughout the area and using them to buy lottery tickets.

John Vincent Haile, 52, of Woodbridge, who worked as a Metro Transit Police Department officer, was sentenced to serve three years and one month in prison. Horace Dexter McDade, 58, of Bowie, Md., who worked as revenue technician, was sentenced to serve two years and six months in prison. Both men were also ordered to serve three years probation and pay $472,679 in restitution.
