ALEXANDRIA, VA
— The Alexandria police announced Wednesday that they arrested a Prince William County man on charges stemming from an alleged rape that occurred nine years ago. On March 5, the police charged Luis Hernandez Rivera, 54, with one count of aggravated sexual battery and one count of rape of child.

The police launched an investigation last month after a 15-year-old girl told them that a man raped and sexually assaulted her in a home on Edsall Road between 2009 and 2010. Detectives investigated the incident and arrested Herrera.

In a statement, the Alexandria Police Department said it "will fully investigate sexual offenses, when enough information exists, no matter when the offense occurred."

The city's Sexual Assault Center offers a 24/7 confidential hotline at 703.683.7273, individual counseling, support groups, family support and information and referral services. Call the hotline to access these and additional services, or visit the website here.
