Yesterday, in Denver (instead of Monday in Illinois) President Barack Obama signed into law H.R. 1, commonly known as the stimulus package. The Dow Jones Industrial Average greeted this news with a drop of nearly 298 points to end the day at 7552.60.

Ozone protection

My name is Brandon Ucanan and I’m writing because many cars on the street are burning hole in are ozone layer. The many reasons that the ozone layer is ripping apart it’s because to much pollution from suv and Hummers. The more that people don’t listen the more earth suffers. SUV's put out 43% more global-warming pollutant and that’s not all from just SUVs 47% more air pollution than the average car.

Our planet is a disgrace

I am an eighth grader that attends Carl Sandburg Middle School. I am writing specifically for the safety of our planet. If the inhabitants of the earth don’t reduce their usage of natural resource then the planet will over heat. This once beautiful land of our fathers is now a disgrace. Driving along the George Washington Parkway, if you look out of your car window you will see litter strewn across the Potomac River.

Light bulbs

My name is Emma Yohannan and I am an eighth grader at Carl Sandburg middle school. The incandescent light bulb is a source of electric light that works by incandescence. An electric current is passes through a thin filament, heating it until it causes a light. The enclosing glass bulb prevents oxygen in air from reaching the filament. Incandescent light bulbs are not energy efficient; they waste most of the energy they use.

Global Warming

I am Hilary Canary and I am a student at Carl Sandburg Middle School. I believe that global warming is caused by humans and needs to be stopped. I don't think that humans should have expected that our years of excessive fossil fuel emissions would amount to nothing. But what¢s done is done, and now we need to work on ways to fight global warming.

I am concerned that we will leave a dirty environment and a polluted earth to our children to clean up. I have found some easy ways to help the environment that don’t take very long. The first way is to put energy efficient light bulbs in your house.

Conserving Water

Brandon Steuerwald Alexandria, Virginia My name is Brandon Steuerwald and I go to Carl Sandburg Middle School. I did some research about conserving water. The earth only has 1% of fresh water, the rest of the water in the world is either frozen or is salty. If you turn off the water everyday when brushing your teeth, you can save up to 10 gallons of water.

Global Warming

I am an 8th Grader at Carl Sandburg Middle School and have written to address the public's hysteria over the global warming theory and its affect on the earth. It has not been proven and therefore we can not build up a fear of what we know to be a natural cycle. Throughout time, the earth has gone through cycles that transition between warming and cooling periods. We should take steps to improve, not harm, our environment, but we should not think the earth is dying because of global warming.

Hi, I’m Sean Goad and I’m writing about how recycling paper more can save a lot more trees. Americans use 50 million tons of paper each year. It takes more than 17 trees to make one ton of paper. If everyone in the U.S. recycled their Sunday newspaper, half a million trees would be spared weekly. Some ways of recycling in your house are:
