ALEXANDRIA, VA. - Independence Day is one of the most festive holidays on our calendar, and a day where barbecues, fireworks and large family or community get togethers are practically expected.

While it may be fun for most of us humans, it can be the most frightening time of the year for dogs.

In fact, the rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air will likely send your dog into a state of panic, causing them to bolt and look for a place to hide.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals recommends pet owners take steps to protect their furry friends from harm and keep them from running off during this time of year.
