ALEXANDRIA, VA. - A mysterious fire broke out in an alleyway dumpster between the Monaco Hotel and Restaurant Eve on South Pitt Street Sunday evening December 18 at 6:00 pm.  Smoke entered the Monaco Hotel, setting off smoke alarms in visitors' rooms and leading to a building-wide evacuation.  As flames shot upward from the alley, the fire remained contained inside the metal dumpster, and firefighters from the Alexandria Fire Department's A shift quickly responded.  They worked with hoses in the area for about thirty minutes, remaining for a period of time to ensure that the fire was completely quelled.  Firemen had to remove the door hinges of the dumpster to gain access to its interior.  Bystander Cesar Rodas shot the attached video.  Alexandria Firefighter and public information officer Rick Muse, Jr. spoke with Local Kicks and said that at this time the cause of the fire was unknown.
