ALEXANDRIA, VA. - Kids haven't even had a chance to go trick-or-treating yet, but more than 70 retailers that will not be open on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, to cash in on millions of American shoppers seeking door-buster savings. Debate has been fierce in recent years as Black Friday spills over into Thanksgiving evening; some object to employees having to work that night, while some workers love getting paid double or triple time.

Dozens of national stores vow to keeps their doors closed on Thanksgiving 2017. Those taking the day off from the shopping frenzy include H&M, Burlington, DSW, Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Shoe Carnival and T.J. Maxx. (Subscribe to a Virginia Patch News Alert and Newsletter.
