ALEXANDRIA, VA. — The Planning Commission unanimously voted Tuesday to advance a proposal for a Silver Diner in Alexandria. The business applied to open at 4610 King Street, which near the border with Arlington County. City Council will consider the proposal on May 18.

Silver Diner is a local chain with locations in Virginia and Maryland, as well as one in New Jersey. The restaurant pays homage to the classic American diner with jukeboxes and 50s-style decor. The menu is a twist on classic diner food with homestyle dishes, sandwiches, salads, vegetarian and vegan options, and all-day breakfast. Food is available to dine in or carry out.

The restaurant will be part of a mixed-use development under construction. The West Alex development at King and Beauregard development is expected to have residences, retail, a grocery store and office space. Silver Diner would be on the corner of Beauregard Street and King Street. The redevelopment was approved in 2015.
