July 4th 2018: What's Open, Closed In Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, VA. — Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday this year, and many services normally open will be closed for the mid-week holiday.

City of Alexandria offices will be closed Wednesday July 4. However, services like the recreation centers, museums and Metro will be open, although on a different schedule.

Here are the openings/closings and local events to know for Fourth of July:

City of Alexandria Offices: Closed Fourth of July.

State Offices: The Alexandria Circuit Court Clerk's Office, the Alexandria Circuit Court, the Alexandria General District Court, and the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed Fourth of July, as well as the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Office at 2681 Mill Road.

Animal Shelter: The Vola Lawson Animal Shelter will be closed on July. Animal-related emergencies should be directed to Alexandria Police at 703-746-4444.

DASH: DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Fourth of July. The free King Street Trolley will operate on its normal schedule, every 10 to 15 minutes, between the King Street Metro Station and the Potomac River Waterfront, from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. For more information, visit dashbus.com.

Health Facilities:
The Alexandria Health Department (4480 King St.), the Flora Krause Casey Health Center (1200 N. Howard St.) and the Teen Wellness Center at T.C. Williams High School (3330 King St.) will be closed on July 4.

Historic Alexandria Facilities:
The Lyceum and Fort Ward Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Gadsby's Tavern Museum and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the Historic Alexandria Store will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All other Office of Historic Alexandria museums will be closed on July 4. Hotlines:
All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline at 703-746-5800; the domestic violence hotline at 703-746-4911; the emergency services for mental health or substance abuse crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the adult protective services hotline at 703-746-5778; and the sexual assault hotline at 703-683-7273.

Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches and the Alexandria Law Library (520 King St.) will be closed on July 4.

Metrorail: The system will open at 7 a.m. and close at 11:30 p.m. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day. No track work is scheduled. Riders are not permitted to bring bicycles and large coolers.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Saturday schedule. Expect detours around the National Mall. See bus timetables.

Parking: On Fourth of July, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions for metered spaces, residential permit parking districts, and other areas with posted parking time limits. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces, and does not permit parking in any location normally prohibited (for example, no parking zones, loading zones, or spaces for persons with disabilities). Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced on July 4.

Pools: The Old Town and Memorial outdoor pools will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., and the Warwick pool will be open from noon to 7:45 p.m. Visit alexandriava.gov/Aquatics for more information.

Recreation and Arts Centers:
The Chinquapin Park Recreation Center & Aquatics Facility will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 4. The Charles Houston Recreation Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Torpedo Factory Art Center and all other recreation and arts centers will be closed on July 4.

Trash and Recycling: Residential refuse and recycling will not be collected on Wednesday, July 4. Collection service on Monday, July 2 and Tuesday, July 3 will happen as usual, and all other collections will be delayed by one day the week of July 4.
