ALEXANDRIA, VA. - It was a star-studded evening for the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Thursday at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office honoring Alexandria's Best in Business class, and paying tribute to the success and service of Peter Converse of Virginia Commerce Bank, and awarding Best Business of the Year to Joe Hadeed of Hadeed Oriental Rug Cleaning.

The ballroom of the PTO in Alexandria was packed with attendees and enthusiasm as Chamber Chair Mike Anderson and Chamber President & CEO Tina Leone announced the winners of the 2011 "Best in Business" awards.

Association/Non-Profit of the Year:  Inova Alexandria Hospital;
Disability Awareness Business of the Year: Intercontinental Hotel Group;
Eco-Friendly Business of the Year: Wheel Nuts Bike Shop;
Small Business of the Year: GovTrends and also Artfully Gifts and Chocolate;
Medium-size Business of the Year: Speck-Caudron Investment Group of Wells Fargo Advisors;
Large Business of the Year: B3 Solutions;
Rising Star Business of the Year, Port City Brewing Company;
Overall Best Business of the Year: Hadeed Carpet.
 
The Chamber is asking for members to mark their calendar for Dec. 6 for their Annual Meeting Breakfast presented by SunTrust to be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Keynote speaker will be Terry McAuliffe, a longtime advisor to President Bill Clinton and former Democratic Party head chair.  He served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2001 to 2005, and also served as Co-Chairman of President Bill Clinton's 1996 re-election campaign and as Chair of the 2008 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign.
 
The newly formed women's group of the Chamber, the Alexandria Professional Women's Network  is hosting its first "lunch and learn" event next Wednesday at Columbia Firehouse Restaurant.    
 
Steve Nearman, Event Director of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon, produced another exciting race on October 2nd beginning in Alexandria and ending at National Harbor.
