ALEXANDRIA, VA. - The City Council has unanimously approved a Stage 1 special use permit and amendments for the future mixed-use development at Hoffman Town Center, which will include Wegmans, other retail and three residential buildings.

The next step is the Stage 2 special use permit approval for the final site and building design. Approval by the City Council will allow the project to begin construction. Hearings could happen as soon as March.

The Stage 1 vote approved plans for a five-level building including parking and retail, a 10-level condominium building, a U-shaped apartment building and senior living building at Stovall and Mandeville Streets. Developer StoneBridge Carras is in talks with the city about affordable housing options on the site. The city's preferred option is allowing a non-profit to build a 75-unit building on site.
