ALEXANDRIA, VA. - The first week of fall coincided with the last burst of heat, but it didn’t keep members of the Mount Vernon-Lee and Alexandria Chamber of Commerce members from attending respective events last weeks.

Well over 100 people attended the Taste of Mount Vernon that was held at Woodlawn Plantation on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010.

Guests enjoyed delicious food and drink from Occasionally Cake; Red, Hot & Blue BBQ; Dishes of India; Moe's Southwest Grill; Spring Hills of Mount Vernon; Celestial Cheesecakes; Chevy's Fresh Mex Restaurant; Matter's of Taste; Mamma's Kitchen; Capitol Caterers; Mindy's Catering; Choose Your Cookie; and Union Street Public House.

At the same time, they supported a good cause. A total of $4500 was given to the Help the Homeless funds for Good Shepherd Housing & Family Services, New Hope Housing, Inc., and United Community Ministries.

Also in attendance were: Chris Van Dyke, Harpist; Richard Miller, Guitarist; All Seasons Floral Preservation; Frost Lighting Company; Dawn Bernard Photography; LoveStruck Images with Katie Norwood; and Rene Abella Photography.

The next evening, over 200 members, guests and potential new members enjoyed a beautiful evening and scenic view from the patio of the Chart House Restaurant for this year’s Alexandria Chamber New Member Reception.

The member orientation, held before the reception, was led by Durwood Gould and Josh Krieg, Chair of the Enterprising Professionals Group. The meeting was packed with new and current members who took advantage of the time to learn more about the organization of the Chamber and how to maximize their membership investment.

Jay Palermino, Director Membership Sales and Services, said, “We acquired six new members over the two weeks prior to the event with two on-site membership commitments. Over 200 people attended, we had 20 new member prospects and 147 new members for the year.”
